CLINICAL SUPERVISION & MENTORSHIP

"A star wants to see herself rise to the top.

A leader wants to see those around her become stars."

Clinical Supervision & Mentorship

For Counselors

I am certified as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) by the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) for post-masters counselors looking to gain hours towards their clinical license. I also volunteer for the NBCC Foundation's military and rural scholarships program as a mentor to provide support to masters-level counseling students who are committed to serving in these communities.

My role as a clinical supervisor and mentor is to support and guide you in becoming a competent and effective counselor who can apply the convergence of knowledge, theory, and technique.

I use a psychotherapy-based supervision model. My supervision style is based on a person-centered, trauma-informed, internal family systems (IFS) approach through a creative, integrative, and holistic lens.  As your clinical supervisor and mentor, my goal is to collaborate with you and, through our relationship, encourage the emergence of your natural tendencies to learn and grow.

Our goals for clinical supervision are to help you to:

  • Develop competence and skills in standard mental health assessment, treatment planning, implementation, documentation, and treatment modalities.

  • Gain a thorough understanding of theoretical orientations and their practical application, while helping to develop your counseling identity.

  • Observe and establish appropriate techniques and theory directives.

  • Develop ethical decision-making and best practices in the clinical setting.

  • Collaborate on case reviews and management.

  • Effectively mitigate and identify the symptoms of professional burnout.

  • Develop appropriate boundaries, and essential communication skills, as well as establish appropriate self-disclosure and self-awareness.

  • Design, schedule, plan, structure, and coordinate activities and client care.

  • Prioritize the protection of client welfare and the promotion of self-leadership.

  • Examine many themes that can occur while practicing as a counselor such as the impact of cultural, gender, sexual identity, or religious biases, as well as transference and countertransference

Evaluation Procedures

I use several tools in establishing goals and evaluating these goals in supervision:

  • We may utilize roleplay, engage in constructive dialogue and feedback sessions, as well as process observable examples of your work (live observation, audiotapes, videotapes, etc.).

  • We will periodically evaluate your progress with determined goals with formative and summative evaluations.

  • Scales and questionnaires may be used to gauge your progress and to present you with important feedback.

  • Self-assessment tools may be used to evaluate administrative and clinical performance and outcomes which may be compared to my observations of your work for deeper insight.
