“Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don't think you've lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”
"May I become at all times, both now and forever, a protector for those without protection. A guide for those who have lost their way. A ship for those with oceans to cross. A bridge for those with rivers to cross. A sanctuary for those in danger. A lamp for those without light. A place of refuge for those who lack shelter. And a servant to all in need."
Heather J. McPaul, MS, LPC, NCC, GC-C
My name is Heather McPaul and I am a professional counselor licensed in the state of New Jersey and Pennslyvania and am a nationally certified counselor as well as a clinical supervisor and practice executor. I am a military veteran, an artist, an author, a wife, and a rescue dog enthusiast. I love to travel, watch Netflix documentaries, garden, and go for runs, and last but not least, I love the work that I do!
I specialize in working with adults who are going through difficult times in their lives and need to regain their sense of balance. Whether you are a military veteran struggling to transition to civilian life, a grieving widow trying to manage a household, or a stressed-out new private practice owner, I can support you and help you to develop the courage, skills, and resiliency to keep going. I work with people who want to get their lives in better shape and what I enjoy most about this work, is being the guide that shows you what you're capable of achieving. It is my honor to assist each individual in their journey for a healthier and happier life!
As a counselor, my main focus is on traumatic experiences. My training in trauma-informed expressive arts therapy, and my certifications in both, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and grief counseling, help me to empower and teach my clients how to fully process their stories so that their past no longer has a negative impact on their future. I use an internal family systems (IFS) approach to counseling that gently focuses on understanding and caring for our learned behaviors, impulses, and survival modes. This enables clients to restore internal balance and trust, and helps clients to reconnect with their "Self" in a healing and meaningful way.
If you are ready to reawaken your inner warrior because you're tired of being in the same rut with the same problems, then Symmetry of Self is the right fit for you.
